Review of the Mi Watch Revolve Active: More Functions on Your Wrist

The Mi Watch Revolve, which was released last year, features a circular AMOLED display and a long battery life, but it lacks smartwatch capabilities. Xiaomi has released a new wearable device dubbed the Mi Watch Revolve Active, which appears to be a more fitness-focused version of the original Mi Watch Revolve. SpO2 tracking and Alexa voice assistant support are features of the new Mi Watch Revolve Active. The most intriguing aspect is that it is priced at the same level as the Mi Watch Revolve, albeit the older model has just been reduced in price. So, is the Xiaomi Mi Watch Revolve Active the greatest bargain on the market? To discover out, I put this wristwatch to the test.

In India, the Mi Watch Revolve Active costs Rs.

The Mi Watch Revolve Active is priced at Rs. 9,999, although I saw it at Rs. 8,999 throughout my review time. The Mi Watch Revolve 7,999 Active is available in three colours: Beige, Blue, and Black.

Design of the Mi Watch Revolve Active

From a distance, the Mi Watch Revolve Active seems to be a conventional watch due to its round face. It has a 1.39-inch AMOLED display with 2.5D curved glass on top of the frame. The Mi Watch Revolve Active is only available in one size, and if you have small hands, it may appear large on your wrist. The display has a thin bezel all the way around, with the words Home and Sport engraved near the two physical buttons on the right side. When pushed, these provide satisfying clicky feedback. The left side is entirely blank.

Xiaomi claims that the Mi Watch Revolve Active's frame is constructed of fiber-reinforced polyamide, which gives it a plasticky appearance. It also makes it lightweight, since the watch body weighs just 35g. The Mi Watch Revolve Active comes with 22mm bands that are user-replaceable without the use of any additional equipment.

The strap is supple and has a textured feel. To keep it on your wrist, it includes a normal pin buckle. Xiaomi claims it will provide more strap alternatives, giving you the ability to personalise the look of your watch. The rough strap was a little difficult to wear at first, but it became more comfortable with use. I was not bothered by the watch when wearing it.

The Mi Watch Revolve Active's bottom holds all of the sensors for heart rate and SpO2 monitoring. It also features pin connections for charging the watch's 420mAh battery. Alexa's microphones are located at 12 o'clock and are only visible when the strap is removed.

The Mi Watch Revolve Active is water resistant up to 5ATM, so you can swim with it and track your progress. Magnets on the charger keep the Mi Watch Revolve Active firmly in place when charging. On the opposite end of this charger is a full-size USB plug.

Software for the Mi Watch Revolve Active

To use the Mi Watch Revolve Active, you must first link it with a smartphone during the setup procedure. The watch may be paired with an Android smartphone via the Xiaomi Wear app or an iOS device via the Xiaomi Wear Lite app. These are the same applications required to operate the Redmi Watch 3,999 (Review) and the Mi Watch Revolve (Review). The pairing procedure is basic and uncomplicated. These apps also provide all of the health data collected by the watch at a glance.

Once linked, you can activate alerts on the watch and set up Alexa using the phone app. Using the app, you can customise the Mi Watch Revolve Active's settings, such as watch faces, and choose which applications may notify you on the wrist. There are over 100 watch faces available for download online, but the watch only allows you to save five of them. Furthermore, with the exception of those that allow you to set a photo as a watchface, these faces cannot be customised in any manner. You may rearrange the widgets on the watch as well as the exercises directly from the app.

Xiaomi allows you to fully utilise the AMOLED display by providing an Always-On display mode. This isn't activated by default since it will reduce battery life. When the Always-on Display is enabled, the raise-to-wake feature is disabled, so you'll have to push a button to wake the watch, which might be annoying. There are also several alternative faces for the always-on display.

The Mi Watch Revolve Active features a unique operating system and several widgets that can be accessed by swiping right from the watch face. Pressing the top right button brings you to the app drawer UI, where you can access other functions like as the timer, alarms, compass, barometer, and Alexa. You may also reach Alexa by long-pressing this button.

The Mi Wrist Revolve Active does not appear to have a full-fledged version of Alexa installed on the watch, and its capabilities are limited. You can speak to this voice assistant, and responses will display on the screen as text. Alexa will answer if you ask her about the weather. I could also ask it other queries, and it would retrieve the answers from the internet. I could use the watch to check the progress of Amazon orders. If you have IoT devices set up with Alexa, you should be able to operate them as well. I couldn't use Alexa to play music on my phone, and it didn't function to send a message either.

I had no trouble navigating the watch because it was quite responsive. Swiping from the watch face also allowed me to rapidly check my heart rate and SpO2 levels. Long-pressing the bottom Sport button brings you directly to the workouts that you can monitor on the Mi Watch Revolve Active.

Mi Watch Revolve Active battery life and performance

The Mi Watch Revolve Active outperforms Xiaomi's prior watch in terms of functionality. It features SpO2 tracking, which is a useful function to have at this time of year. I compared the Mi Watch Revolve Active's SpO2 tracking to a fingertip pulse oximeter and found the findings to be accurate. When compared to an Apple Watch SE that I was wearing at the same time, heart rate values while at rest were similarly correct.

The Mi Watch Revolve Active was easy to wear while sleeping, and the sleep monitoring was accurate. The Mi Wear App provided me with a breakdown of the various stages of my sleep. I manually counted 1,000 steps as I walked to test step tracking, and the Mi Watch Revolve Active indicated 1,005 steps. This isn't a significant difference and will do for anyone looking for a broad overview of their activity levels.

The Mi Watch Revolve Active can monitor a wide range of workouts. While you're working out, it continually displays your heart rate and the number of calories you've burnt. Heart rate tracking while exercising seemed a little wrong to me. On one instance, while exercising, the Apple Watch reported 131bpm whereas the Mi Watch Revolve Active displayed 84bpm, which was incorrect. I wouldn't depend on this heart rate information when exercising.

The Mi Watch Revolve Active can measure the wearer's energy and stress levels as well. Energy levels were high after a good night's sleep and low on days when I hadn't slept well, as predicted. In terms of stress levels, the watch displays a number with a rating of High, Moderate, Mild, or Relaxed. On most days, the Mi Watch Revolve Active indicated that I was in the Moderate/Relaxed zone during the week and in the Mild/Relaxed zone on weekends. You may also utilise the watch's guided breathing widget to try to lower stress levels.

The Mi Watch Revolve Active can vibrate on your wrist to alert you to incoming alerts. These alerts are only visible to you; you cannot reply to them. Similarly, incoming calls with the caller's name are displayed on the watch, but you only have the choice to quiet or reject the call.

On a full charge, the Mi Watch Revolve Active lasted me less than two weeks. On most days, I tracked exercises, with sleep monitoring enabled and occasional SpO2 values. I also left the always-on display on for a few days, which drained the battery significantly faster. My workouts were done indoors, so no GPS was required, and if you intend on monitoring outdoor activities outside, you may see a decrease in battery life. The watch took around two hours to completely charge.

Verdict

The new Mi Watch Revolve Active is designed for those who are always on the go. SpO2 monitoring is a useful tool to have at these times. Xiaomi has set the pricing of this watch at Rs. 9,999, making it more expensive than the Mi Watch Revolve, which is presently available for Rs. 7,999. The new watch handles basic monitoring well, but heart rate tracking while working out is less accurate.

Alexa connectivity is available with the Mi Watch Revolve Active, although its usefulness is restricted. There aren't many alternatives on the market at this pricing point, but the Amazfit GTS 2e is one that gets close.
