Google Duo's home screen will be updated shortly with a 'New Call' option. The new button is claimed to make it easier to make phone calls. Users may also contact their Assistant "Home" device using the 'New Call' button. The new home screen user interface (UI) keeps the search bar at the top of the screen, but the contacts are shown differently, along with the 'New Call' button. Google stated that the makeover would be available to users in the following weeks.
A post on the Google Duo Help blog highlighted the new functionality inside the revamped UI for Google Duo. According to the article, this is one of the most requested features for Google's video calling program. The new blue-colored floating action button (FAB) for 'New Call' will allow users to make a new call on the app, establish a group, see groups and contact lists, and call your "home" device, according to the firm.
A few previously available features have also been removed from the new UI. Users may now 'Send Messages' by first selecting a contact or group and then selecting the Message button. Users may 'Create Groups' by touching the 'New Call' FAB and then clicking the Create Group link. Users of Google Duo will be able to 'See Contacts and Existing Groups' by searching for them or by tapping the 'New Call' FAB. To 'Invite Contacts,' users will need to press the 'New Call' FAB and search for the contact through the search bar or the contacts list.
The 'New Call' FAB for Google Duo is scheduled to be available in a few weeks. The platform on which the update will be released initially is not mentioned, although it is likely to be available to both Android and iOS users.
Google has been focusing more on Google Meet over the last year, including adding filters and effects that were previously limited to Google Duo. The next Google Duo upgrade is the first in over a year since the last update provided the ability to make Google Duo video conversations on Android TV in August of last year.
