According to a recent source, the iPhone 13 series will be released in September and will include Wi-Fi 6E compatibility for the 6GHz band as well as an enhanced range. The next Apple smartphone is likely to include improved cameras, notably a wide-angle lens, as well as expanded mmWave support to additional locations.
According to industry insiders cited in a DigiTimes story, Apple will include Wi-Fi 6E technology in its new iPhones this year, and the technology is likely to become a regular component of both iOS and Android devices in 2022.
This would result in substantial benefits for Taiwan's GaAs IC foundries Win Semiconductors, Advanced Wireless Semiconductor Company (AWSC), and Visual Photonics Epitaxy Company, as well as GaAs epi-wafer supplier Visual Photonics Epitaxy Company (VPEC).
With the iPhone 11, Apple launched Wi-Fi 6, which greatly enhanced speed and security over the previous generation Wi-Fi 5 protocol. Wi-Fi 6E is considered a minor update because it only offers limited 6GHz band capability. This will result in higher bandwidth and less interference for Wi-Fi 6E devices.
According to the study, the three businesses listed above would see third-quarter sales grow even more due to increased demand for VCSEL chips as iPhones continue to incorporate 3D Face ID sensors for ordinary models and ToF LiDAR scanners for the Pro series.
According to a recent Bloomberg story, Apple has requested suppliers to produce up to 90 million next-generation iPhone devices this year, a significant increase from projected 2020 iPhone shipments.
